Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT)
Who should take the test?
The CJBAT is a test you need to take if you're interested in becoming a law enforcement officer or working in corrections in Florida. It checks your thinking and behavior skills to see if you're ready for training. Passing the CJBAT is one of the first steps toward starting your career in these fields.
Important Information
There are separate tests for corrections and law enforcement. Make sure you select the correct exam. The exam consists of 3 separately-timed sections:
- Section I: Behavioral attributes
- Section II: Memorization
- Section III: Written comprehension, written expression, deductive and inductive reasoning
The CJBAT is a 97-question test that you’ll have 90 minutes (1.5 hours) to complete. You can take the exam up to three times within a 12-month period, but it’s only offered at testing locations within the state of Florida.
Score Results
The BAT result is Pass or Fail and is valid for 4 years from the date the test is taken. No percentage scores are given. The only official grade report for the BAT is the exam result listed in ATMS (FDLE's Automated Training Management System). All Florida criminal justice agencies have access to ATMS.

Once authorized by NREMT, students may schedule appointments and pay test fees through the Pearson VUE website.

National Testing Network (NTN)
Palm Beach State College has partnered with the National Testing Network (NTN) to offer computer-based employment tests for entry-level positions in firefighting, law enforcement, corrections and emergency communications. These tests are for applicants seeking jobs with city, county and state public safety agencies.
Important Information
NTN tests include video simulations that show real-life situations you might face on the job you're applying for. After watching each scenario, you'll choose how you would respond. Once you finish the test, you’ll see your score right away, and public safety agencies will receive your results immediately.
