Program Overview
Palm Beach State College's Associate in Science (A.S.) in Health Information Technology prepares students to play a critical role in managing the data that drives health care. You'll develop the technical and management skills needed to ensure health information is accurate, secure and accessible to support quality patient care.
Through applied, hands-on coursework, you'll gain experience with electronic health records, health care information systems and data analysis. You'll learn how to manage health data, support regulatory compliance and translate medical records into standardized codes for billing and reimbursement.
Graduates are prepared for careers in hospitals, clinics, insurance organizations and public health settings. This program also prepares you for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification and provides a strong foundation for advancing in the field of health information management.

- The Health Information Technology (HIT) A.S. degree program at Palm Beach State College achieved a 91.5% completion rate for the 2024–2025 academic year.
- Eighty-three percent (83%) of 2024–2025 HIT A.S. degree graduates were employed within one year of graduation.
- The Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification exam pass rate for Palm Beach State College students in 2024–2025 was 100%.
- During the 2024–2025 academic year, Students overwhelmingly reported that the program effectively prepared them for the Health Information Management (HIM) profession. Results indicate that graduates developed essential competencies, including critical thinking skills, foundational knowledge for HIM roles, effective communication, professionalism and the ability to collaborate within team-based environments.
