Palm Beach State College’s Associate in Science (A.S.) in Diagnostic Medical Sonography prepares students for entry-level practice as sonographers. Students learn to use high-frequency sound waves to create images that help physicians evaluate and diagnose a variety of medical conditions.
The program combines classroom instruction, lab practice and clinical education to help students develop technical expertise in the field. You'll build knowledge and skills in sonographic anatomy, imaging techniques, patient care and communication, image evaluation and the decision-making needed to obtain diagnostic images. Clinical rotations allow students to apply these skills in patient care settings while gaining experience under supervision.
Graduates are prepared to pursue professional certification exams and enter the field of diagnostic medical sonography. Students may also continue their education through the College’s Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging.
