EMS Symposium

“From the Streets and Beyond: Advancements in EMS Care,” presents seven engaging sessions on both common and uncommon topics in EMS and Emergency Department care. Each session is led by a regional subject matter expert. Participants must attend all seven presentations to receive continuing education units (CEUs).

  • Time: 7:45am - 4pm
  • Limited seats available


Forcible Entry Workshop

This class is designed to allow the participant to use multiple tools, including manual, gas-powered, and battery-operated equipment, on a variety of realistic forcible entry props. The training environment encourages collaboration and camaraderie between local fire rescue agencies to share tactical ideas and experiences.

  • Time: 8am - 3pm
  • Instructor: Deputy Chief Steven Shaw

In this class, you will:

  • Utilize Multiple Props: Practice on garage and overhead door props, hurricane glass, and dedicated stations for metal, wood, angle iron, and chains.
  • High-Repetition Training: Perform multiple repetitions of essential skills, including forcing doors, cutting roof materials, and breaching overhead doors.
  • Compare Technologies: Evaluate different technologies first-hand, specifically comparing the performance and utility of battery-powered vs. gas-powered tools.
  • Master the Tool Cache: Gain proficiency with a wide array of equipment, including Halligans, axes, metal hooks, gas-powered chainsaws, rotary rescue saws, and modern battery-powered angle grinders, drills, and band saws.

Requirements:

  • PPE: Full Bunker Gear Required
  • Safety: SCBA Recommended
  • Personal: Bring lunch, water and sunblock

Evaluation: The session will conclude with a hot-wash style field evaluation followed by an online evaluation.
