Program Overview

Palm Beach State College's Machining Technology Career Certificate Program (CCP) prepares students for in-demand careers in the manufacturing industry. Students gain hands-on experience as they develop the skills needed to work as a machinist in modern production and machine shop environments.

Coursework covers manufacturing safety, applied math, blueprint reading, CNC programming, production planning, precision inspection methods, the manual machining process and how to set up and operate manual mills and lathes. Hands-on shop and lab experiences are a key part of the program, giving students real-world training with machine tools, accessories and programming techniques related to current industry standards.

  • Admission requirements: None. To receive financial aid, a high school diploma or GED may be required. 
  • Location: Lake Worth campus
  • Clock hours: 1,500
  • Program Length: 14 months

Career Outlook

Career opportunities are available in many industries, including aerospace, medical device, computer technology and automotive manufacturing fields. Graduates may find entry-level employment as machinists, machinists helpers, computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) operators or programmers and CAD/CAM machine operators or programmers.

  • Step 2: After you attend an information session, you may apply to the program by selecting Program Code 5459 for the Machining Technology CCP when you fill out PBSC's application on the Admissions webpage.
  • Step 3: Meet with a Trade and Industry advisor.
  • Step 4: Take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) exam if not exempt from TABE testing.
