Palm Beach State College's Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) program helps bachelor's degree holders in non-education majors make a career shift into the meaningful field.

Through courses approved by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE), you'll develop the baseline knowledge to promote student achievement. You'll learn educational theory, effective teaching strategies, classroom management and instructional technology. Individuals can choose to specialize in the Reading Endorsement EPI, helping you become professionally qualified for highly effective reading instruction.

Program Details

  • Admission requirements: 
    • Bachelor's degree in a non-education major with minimum 2.5 GPA
    • A valid Statement of Status of Eligibility (SOE) from the FLDOE
    • Pass the General Knowledge Test (GKT) Reading, English, Essay and Math sub-tests
  • Location: Online with one in-person practicum experience course at partner schools
  • Credits: 21
  • Program Length: One year
  • Start Terms: Fall, Spring and Summer
  • Cost: Approximately $2,359 for Florida residents, including tuition and books. View tuition details

After completing the Educator Preparation Institute program, you can:

  • Take the Florida Teacher Certification Exams (FTCE) Professional Education Test and obtain the Florida Professional Educator Certificate. 

With the Reading Endorsement specialization, you can:

  • Obtain a Reading Endorsement issued by the Florida Department of Education.

  • Step 2: Fill out PBSC's general application on the Admissions webpage and select the program code for your preferred specialization:

  • Step 3: After filling out the general application, complete the EPI supplemental application and follow the instructions.
  • Step 4: Meet with the program director for an entrance interview.
