Program Overview
Palm Beach State College's Diesel Technician Career Certificate Program (CCP) prepares
students to inspect, maintain and repair medium and heavy-duty trucks. Students learn
the components of diesel vehicles, how to perform preventive maintenance inspections
and the diagnostic service and repair of air and hydraulic brakes and electrical and
electronic systems. Throughout the program, students earn certifications from the
National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), the industry’s leading
certifier of automotive and diesel professionals.

- Admission requirements: None. To receive financial aid, a high school diploma or GED may be required.

- Program Length: 22-week daytime program or 32-week evening program

Career Outlook
After completing this program, students may seek employment as maintenance technicians
in fleets, dealerships, quick lube shops, tire stores or independent service/repair
shops related to the diesel industry. Career options include diesel technician, service
advisor, parts specialist or entrepreneur.
Stackable Credentials
After completing your Diesel Technician certificate, you can:
- Pursue five professional-level ASE Medium-Heavy Truck certifications: T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension and Steering), T6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC: Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) and T8 (Preventive Maintenance Inspection).
- Apply six months of program completion toward the ASE two-year work experience requirement for full professional certification.

How to Apply
- Step 1: Attend a mandatory program information session. Register here.
- Step 2: After you attend an information session, you may apply to the program by selecting Program Code 5452 for the Diesel Technician CCP when you fill out PBSC's application on the Admissions webpage.
- Step 3: Meet with a Trade and Industry advisor online or in person.
- Step 4: Take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) exam if not exempt from TABE testing.
- Step 5: Make an appointment with the Program Director as the final step.
