Frequently Asked Questions
How do I fill out the Scholarship Application?
Head over to the Foundation Application Portal and log in with your PBSC username (student ID) and password. The application usually
takes about 20–30 minutes, depending on how long your personal statement is. If you’re
writing multiple essays, give yourself a little extra time. Make sure you complete
the entire application and print your confirmation. Once it’s submitted, you won’t
be able to make changes.
If you experience any login issues, please contact the Service Desk for assistance.
Should I complete the FAFSA?
Most scholarships ask that you complete the FAFSA because the donor wants to support
students with financial need. The FAFSA helps the Foundation figure out who qualifies
for need-based scholarships.
There are also merit-based scholarships, which are awarded for achievements like grades or involvement and do not require the FAFSA.
We know some students may not be eligible to fill out the FAFSA due to immigration status. Even if that’s the case, we encourage you to apply for scholarships. There may still be scholarships available depending on funding.
Who determines which students receive Foundation Scholarships?
Scholarship recipients are chosen based on the criteria set by each donor. Applications
are reviewed by the Financial Aid Office in accordance with donor requirements and
college policies. All decisions made by the Financial Aid Office regarding scholarships
are final.
When are Foundation Scholarships awarded?
Foundation Scholarships are awarded each August for the new academic year. Remember,
you’re still responsible for paying your tuition when you register for classes. Since
scholarships may be posted after your payment due date, it’s important to make sure
your classes are covered so they aren’t dropped for non-payment.
How will I know if I receive a Foundation Scholarship?
Selected students will be notified by PBSC email in August. All recipients are required
to submit a “Letter of Gratitude” to the Foundation within two weeks of the award
notification. This letter will be shared with the donor. If you have any questions
about your letter, you can contact the Foundation Office.
What is a Letter of Gratitude?
A gratitude message is a meaningful way to thank your scholarship donor and share
how their generosity is helping you pursue your educational goals. Take the opportunity
to express your appreciation sincerely and let them know the impact their support
is making in your life. Keep your message clear, positive and free of spelling or
grammatical errors, and consider asking someone to review it before submitting. While
writing, focus on thanking the donor for their support rather than mentioning the
dollar amount of the scholarship. If you received more than one donor-funded scholarship,
please submit a separate thank-you letter for each scholarship.
If you need help writing your letter, please make an appointment at the Student Learning Center or email the Foundation for Palm Beach State College at foundation@pbsc.edu.
