Palm Beach State College Board Policy
Title: Alternate Worksite Program
Policy Number: 6Hx-18-5.47
Legal Authority: 1001.64 and 1001.65, F.S.
Date Adopted/Amended: Adopted 8/10/2021
Policy Statement
An alternate worksite program may pose advantages for both Palm Beach State College and its employees, including increased productivity and performance, enhanced employee recruitment and retention, relief of on-campus space constraints, reduction of capital expenses, environmental sustainability, and crisis response. Having an alternate worksite is not an entitlement or Collegewide benefit. An alternate worksite is a work arrangement reviewed and approved by the College’s executive leadership, in which specific departments, sub-departments/units and/or roles fulfill their responsibilities remotely. Employees are expected to comply with all applicable laws, regulations and College policies at all times and locations. The College has the right to determine the physical work location and the right to assign and re-assign any department, sub-departments/units and/or roles. No job duties and functions or alternate work locations may be completed nor assigned outside the State of Florida, except as outlined in Palm Beach State College Procedure 6Hx-18-5.11P.
Scope of Policy
This policy and associated procedure apply to an alternate worksite for regular exempt and nonexempt, non-bargaining unit staff. Alternate worksite arrangements, which may include hybrid/staggered or fully remote arrangements, should be reviewed regularly to determine viability of the functions being performed off-site. It is not intended to apply to short-term, ad hoc arrangements to meet unexpected needs. Supervisors should use their best discretion, consistent with applicable law and College policies, to address short-term or unexpected needs.
Requests for ADA accommodations are not part of the Alternate Worksite Program and may be requested through the appropriate Human Resources procedures.
Implementation
The appropriate cabinet member will present to the President’s Cabinet the department, subdepartments/units and/or roles recommended for an Alternate Worksite arrangement based on the associated procedure.
