Welcome to the CyberWeek Conference at Palm Beach State College. Our one-week series of intensive cybersecurity seminars, workshops and trainings is organized by PBSC's award-winning Ethical Hackers Club in partnership with cybersecurity industry partners and other colleges and universities.

Palm Beach State College's Cyberweek Conference brings together students, ethical hackers, faculty, industry speakers, practitioners and professionals in the fields of computer science, IT, networking and cybersecurity.

In partnership with national cybersecurity organizations and private companies, our participants will engage in intensive training, seminars, demonstrations, certification exercises, cyberchallenge competitions and information sharing to examine the latest cyberdefense techniques, emerging cybercrime threats and cybersolutions. 

 

Event Details

The week-long intensive series of seminars, trainings and workshops serves as a foundation for making cybersecurity connections, engaging in information exchanges and expanding cyberawareness. Activities will lead to problem solving as students and industry professionals work together to form alliances for a stronger and more prepared cybersecurity workforce that addresses the demands of a constantly evolving cyberthreat landscape.

Abhi Saini 
Owner and President, Bearium Networks

Abhi Saini is an IT Leader with over 20 years of experience managing and optimizing complex technology stacks across diverse industries. He has a proven ability to spearhead digital transformations, streamline operations, and enhance customer experiences through strategic technology implementations.

Abhi is currently the Owner and President of Bearium Networks, a Managed IT and Cybersecurity provider in Orlando, FL. Bearium Networks is a boutique IT service provider that takes a holistic view of technology. As technology consultants, they assess needs, recommend solutions, and provide ongoing support to ensure your success. They are built for today’s distributed workforce, using advanced remote management tools to provide fast and efficient support no matter where the team is located. They don’t just want to fix computers; they want to help businesses use technology as efficiently as possible.

Abhi's career has been marked by a steady progression of increasingly responsible roles. He began his career in hands-on technical roles, providing support to end-users and managing IT infrastructure. As he gained experience, he moved into leadership positions, where he was responsible for developing and implementing IT strategies, managing budgets, and leading teams. Throughout his career, Abhi has demonstrated a strong ability to identify and solve business problems using technology. He is also a passionate advocate for the use of technology to improve customer experiences and the importance of continuous learning and development.

Outside of work, Abhi is the Florida State Coordinator for the Information Technology Disaster Resource Center and a board member of his HOA. He is also an avid runner and cyclist who is currently raising money to support the NMDP and running in the 2025 run Disney Springtime Surprise Weekend this April.


Adonis Sardiñas
Systems Engineer, Fortinet

Adonis Sardiñas grew up in Miami, Florida. He currently serves as a Systems Engineer for Fortinet, accountable for the engineering cybersecurity solutions for organizations in South Florida. Adonis has held multiple cybersecurity and information technologies roles at numerous organizations throughout his career, with his latest position at Fortinet as of November 2019. Adonis also serves on multiple Advisors Boards in the community.

Before his current role, Adonis served as Cyber Security Manager of Consulting Services for United Data Technologies (UDT), where he was responsible for providing cybersecurity consulting services for various organizations throughout the United States. He also served as vCISO and Director of the Security Operations Center during his time at UDT. 

Adonis earned a bachelor’s degree in information technology from Barry University and obtained a master’s degree in business administration from Florida International University. Additionally, he holds certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CNDA NSE 4, NSE 7, and CCNA in Cyber Operations. Adonis is also a certified Six Sigma Green Belt.


Andy Jadoo

Anne Bosworth
Associate Professor of English, Palm Beach State College

Anne Bosworth is an Associate Professor of English at PBSC's Boca Raton Campus. She serves on multiple committees, including Academic Innovation, Academic Integrity, AI Across the Curriculum, Panther Care Team, and the Institutional Review Board. Professor Bosworth specializes in Writing Across the Curriculum and teaching writing to students with diverse literacy backgrounds. Currently pursuing TEFL certification and AI certifications, she aims to help students work productively with AI for academic and professional success. A proud Italian American, Professor Bosworth is actively involved in various Italian American cultural and academic organizations.


Dr. Bernardo Perez-Villa
Cleveland Clinic Innovations

Dr. Bernardo Perez-Villa joined Cleveland Clinic Innovations in November 2021, where he currently serves as the Senior Engagement Partner for the Florida region. In this role, he actively promotes Cleveland Clinic’s culture of innovation by identifying unmet clinical needs and transforming them into commercially viable solutions that improve patient care. Dr. Perez-Villa has evaluated and vetted over 100 inventions from Cleveland Clinic caregivers, significantly contributing to the organization's innovation efforts.

Dr. Perez-Villa is the creator and lead of the DEDICARE (DEsigning Disruptive Innovations in HealthCARE) program, a 16-week CME-accredited initiative. This program equips healthcare professionals with the tools to become inventors, regardless of their prior experience. Through DEDICARE, 37 inventors have been trained, leading to the submission of five inventions, with two progressing to the proof-of-concept stage.

Before joining the Innovations team, Dr. Perez-Villa was a Research Associate at the Heart, Vascular, and Thoracic Institute at Cleveland Clinic Florida, where he played a pivotal role in implementing an Outcomes Management and Evaluation System, enhancing patient care by standardizing the collection of patient-reported outcomes.
In addition to his academic and research work, Dr. Perez-Villa served as Chief Scientific Officer at Wellian Inc., a digital health startup, where he led the development and validation of voice assistant technology for clinical history collection, securing the company's first paid client and deploying this solution in three cardiovascular clinics.

Dr. Perez-Villa holds an MD from the National University of Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina, and completed his cardiology training at Hospital del Mar in Barcelona, Spain. He also holds an MSc in Health Economics, Outcomes, and Management from the London School of Economics and has completed fellowships in healthcare innovation from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology and Cleveland Clinic’s Proof of Concept office.

Currently, David serves as the Head of Sales Engineering at CYBER RANGES Corp., where he oversees a globally recognized, award-winning, and scalable cybersecurity training platform. Dr. Elizabeth Horvath
Full Time Faculty, Palm Beach State College

As a faculty member at Palm Beach State College, Dr. Horvath has taught over 20 different courses on network administration and programming. Her network administration skills encompass both Linux and Windows administration. She started teaching the UNIX operating system in 1998 and I have taught classes using RedHat, Solaris, or Ubuntu at least once a year since then. Her 40 years of programming expertise has led me to learn and teach Basic, Pascal, C, C++,ASP.NET C#, Java, Visual Basic, Python, PHP, JSP, SQL, PERL, and JavaScript. I have developed curriculum for both the AS and BAS programs at the college. She was awarded the 2011 NISOD (National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development) Excellence Award which is awarded to "men and women each year who demonstrated an outstanding commitment and contribution to their students and colleagues". She was awarded the 2018 Engineers' Council Distinguished Engineering Educator Award which "recognizes individuals who are outstanding in professional qualities and have a top reputation for engineering education, mentorship and leadership". 


Erik Cabetas

Erik Cabetas started hacking in the late 90s and has been doing computer security professionally in some capacity since 2001. Along the way he's worked in blue teams, red teams, and product teams in IC and leadership roles. He used to be an avid CTF player and won the Defcon CTF in 2003 with Team Anomaly. In 2011 he started IncludeSec because at the time (and still currently to this day) the existing pentesting and security assessment options found in the market were not
impressive. So he created IncludeSec to be an all expert team of hackers who primarily hack on software of all types in all languages.


Ezz Tahoun

Ezz Tahoun, a distinguished cyber-security data scientist, who won AI & innovation awards at Yale, Princeton and Northwestern. He also got innovation awards from Canada’s Communications Security Establishment, Microsoft US, Trustwave US, PIA US, NATO, and more. He ran data science innovation programs and projects for OrangeCyber Defense, Forescout Technologies, Royal bank of Canada, Governments, and Huawei Technologies US. He has published 20 papers, countless articles and 15 open source projects in the domain. When he was 19 years old he started his CS PhD in one of the top 5 labs in the world for cyber & AI, in the prestigious University of Waterloo, where he published numerous papers and became a reviewer for top conferences. His designations include: SANS/GIAC-Advisory-Board, aCCISO, CISM, CRISC, GCIH, GFACT, GSEC, CEH, GCP-Professional-Cloud-Architect, PMP, BENG and MMATH. He was an adjunct professor of cyber defense and warfare at Toronto’s school of management.

Janet Naughton
Librarian/Professor, Palm Beach State College

Janet Naughton is a Librarian and History Professor at Palm Beach State College. She holds master’s degrees in Library and Information Studies and American History and a Community College Leadership and Teaching graduate certificate. She is the past president of the Boynton Beach Historical Society and an award-winning author of several Florida history books. Professor Naughton teaches United States History courses as well as Information Literacy and Research Methods classes (both virtual and face-to-face) on the Lake Worth Campus. She promotes historic scholarship by performing historical research for various projects including history publications, programs, films, and plays, volunteering as a tour guide in a historic Florida cemetery and lecturing on historical topics throughout Florida. Her interests include library outreach and advocacy, information literacy, academic integrity, gamification, and women's history.

Michael Brown
Security and Compliance Director for FRG Systems

Michael Brown is an information security professional and leader with years of experience in IT and information security/cybersecurity. While a security consultant advisor, he worked with clients in the healthcare, financial, manufacturing, and other sectors to assess their security programs and work with them to improve and mature their security posture. He is now Security and Compliance Director for FRG Systems, ensuring their HITRUST and SOC compliance. He is experienced with a variety of security regulations, frameworks, and standards. A seasoned speaker and presenter, he has presented at SFISSA, BSides Tampa, St Pete, and Orlando, HackMiamiCon, and ISSA International. He is an ISSA Fellow and Secretary and past president of the South Florida Chapter of ISSA and is a member of ISACA, ISC2, Infragard, IAPP, and the CISO Society. 


Prof. Michelle McRae
Department Chair & Professor: Artificial Intelligence & Programming, PalmBeach State College

Michelle McRae is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Palm Beach State College (PBSC), where she also serves as Department Chair and Cluster Chair. With more than 15 years of experience in education, Prof. McRae has advanced from adjunct faculty to leadership roles, demonstrating a strong commitment to innovation, student success, and workforce alignment.

At PBSC, Prof. McRae spearheaded the creation of a new Associate of Science degree in Artificial Intelligence, aligning curriculum with industry needs and enhancing student employability. Her leadership extends to curriculum development, faculty mentoring, grant initiatives, and the integration of data-driven strategies to improve student retention and outcomes.

A certified instructor through the Association if College and University Educators (ACUE) Effective Teaching program and a graduate of the PBSC Leadership Excellence program, Michelle actively contributes to college-wide committees, workforce partnerships, and community collaborations. She is also a frequent presenter and club advisor, supporting initiatives in robotics, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.

His skillsets include Cybersecurity, Managed Services, Account Management, selling complex high dollar volume solutions and services.

He has over 25 years of experience in the technology field and worked for many different companies beginning with Hewlett-Packard when they were in their heyday of being a technology leader. After leaving Hewlett Packard, I worked mainly in the telecom sector doing a lot of projects on the international scene. Projects included radio access network (RAN) technology implementation and consulting, Mobile backhaul, and security. From there I moved to work in the field of last mile access fiber networks installation to facilitate and enable fiber to the premise, FTTP deployments. After doing that he became heavily involved in cyber security and IT In a sales and technical consultancy role. 

He has had the pleasure of working with many different people in this industry and one of my pet projects today is to work with and mentor students and entry level professionals entering the field of cybersecurity.

For the past 20+ years, Dr. Roxanne Valies has made a living in highly responsible positions as a Technology Manager or Systems Engineer with two large and well-respected South Florida companies. She spent most of the first decade in the utility industry at Florida Power & Light (now NextEra Energy) and the remaining years in the healthcare industry at Baptist Health of South Florida. Her experience is predominantly with managing, supporting, and architecting virtual desktops and application solutions, a client server technology that spans all parts of a well-structured Information Technology operation.

Not only a committed professional but also a diligent academic, he achieved a 4.0 GPA while balancing his career and community commitments. He holds the CISSP, Security+, Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst (SC-200), and ITIL Foundations certifications, and is passionate about advancing security education, mentorship, and practical engineering practices that prepare the next generation of defenders.
